Treating angle closure glaucoma with cataract surgery

When the natural lens thickens — now called a cataract — it pushes the iris forward against the eye's drainage system, the trabecular meshwork. With the drain closed, fluid is trapped behind the iris and eye pressure climbs. By removing the cataract and replacing it with a thinner lens, we create space to reopen the drainage system and bring the eye pressure back down.
